It is now official. I will be returning to National Television starting November to host a unique agriculture advocacy program, “Tuklas Yaman” on the People’s Television Network PTV4.
This followed an invitation extended by the new Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cesar Chavez for me to host a regular Agriculture Program on National Television to expand the platforms for my advocacies on Food Sufficiency.
Yesterday, I met with the General Manager of PTV4, Antonio “Toby” Nebrida Jr., an old friend from way back, and the programming, marketing and sales staff led by veteran Chit Gatan to finalize the details of “Tuklas Yaman” Program.
It was GM Nebrida who suggested the name “Tuklas Yaman” after I gave him and the PTV4 staff the perspective of what I intend to present to both those who are not directly involved in agriculture and the stakeholders of the sector.
The first part of “Tuklas Yaman” will feature our vast resources for food production and agro-industrial development which will be a virtual tour of the whole country.
The segment “Tuklasin Ang Yaman Ng Bayan” will open the eyes of our policy makers, Economic Managers and Legislators and make them realize that we could attain Food Sufficiency and Agro-Industrialization with correct policies.
Flawed views like “Agriculture is a dying industry” and “We don’t have enough area to produce food” expressed by Economic Policy Makers and Planners in the past could be corrected by presenting to them the richness and vastness of the country.
This will be a reverse of the old practice of government telling agriculture stakeholders what to do because this time, it will be us the farmers who will tell our government policy makers what they need to do to attain food sufficiency and agro-industrial development.
The second segment will feature “Tuklasin at Gawin” which will be a “How To” knowledge sharing by experts like Danilo Arcales Bolos, the outstanding rice farmer from Nueva Ecija with a record harvest of 17-metric tons per hectare, who is willing to show farmers how to increase their yield.
“Tuklasin at Gawin” will also share practical instructions on how to breed and raise free-range chicken, how to raise and feed Cattle, Goats or Sheep or how to prevent the spread of animal diseases through proper bio-security protocols.
It was agreed yesterday that I will be given independence in producing the content and I will form my own team to be supported by the Regional Offices of PTV4.
Marketing and sales will be handled by PTV4 and my group will get a share from the earnings from advertising.
This is an exciting new field and I feel that I am 25 years old again.
Halina kayo. Samahan ninyo ako sa pag Tuklas ng Yaman ng Ating Mahal na Bayan, Pilipinas!
