My home city of Kidapawan, relatively young compared to other cities, will soon become a model for LGU-led Agro-Industrial Programs which would contribute to food sufficiency while boosting the local economy.
The Kidapawan City Council headed by the young Vice Mayor Melvin Lamata, Jr. approved and adopted during the regular session yesterday the Kidapawan Halal Beef and Community Hogstel Programs.
The programs which I designed to address the meat supply shortage resulting from the devastation of the African Swine Fever (ASF), were endorsed to the City Council by the equally young City Mayor Paolo Evangelista, a college classmate of my second daughter, Dr. Josa Bernadette.
With the adoption of the proposed programs yesterday, the work to implement these governance innvations will now start.
The Kidapawan Halal Beef Program will turn the City into the Halal Beef Capital of the Philippines.
The Community Hogstel Program will lift up backyard hog farmers badly battered by the ASF and turn them into agri-entrepreneurs operating a modern hog facility which includes a feed mill, breeding and growing facilities, abattoir and cold storage facilities.
This is the beauty of working with young and energetic local leaders, they move fast and quick.
There is still hope for our country.
