Select Breeders Based On Size, Body Conformation
Breeding backyard chicken is not just simply getting a rooster to be paired to a hen or a flock of hens.
What is very critical in improving your flock is selecting the healthiest, robust and well-bodied breeders.
Today, we started a selection process for prospective breeding roosters.
The body and size had to be felt and each was weighed.
Those selected were dewormed using slices of Betel Nut.
I was able to select 64 young roosters which at 5 months and 3 days weighed between 1.8 to 2 kilos.
Twenty of these selected young roosters will go to the Davao Occidental Manok Pinoy Multiplier Farm.
The rest, I will retain for future breeding programs.
