In these dire times, there are inspiring stories of how Filipinos cope with challenges.
As prices of cooking gas and fuel continue to soar, a local broadcaster based in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat has designed a stove which uses rice hulls as fuel.
Local radioman Ricky Donguines designed his Eco-Stove inspired by the study made by a Filipino engineer Alexis Belonio on the gasification of rice hulls.
Donguines said he improved on the idea and designed a cooking stove which uses the rice hulls, wastes from the milling of rice.
The Eco-Stove uses P1 worth of Rice Hulls per cooking and produces carbonized rice hulls which could be used in producing charcoal briquettes.
This could save thousands of trees from being felled to produce charcoal.
The carbonized rice hulls could also be used in Agriculture and in eliminating odor in poultry farms.
The Donguines Eco-Stove will be a big help for rural families and small eateries which usually use LPG in cooking food.
I will help Ricky Donguines by endorsing his invention to friends who would be interested in the mass production of the Eco-Stove.
