One of the greatest rewards in my advocacy to promote the planting of fruit trees is when farmers travel long distances just to acquire planting materials.
Yesterday, Brothers Jigs and Jay Siclon traveled for 8 hours from Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte to buy 200 seedlings of the EVIARC Sweet Jackfruit and a few other seedlings of other fruit trees, including the Betel Nut.
The younger of the two brothers, Jay, will plant the EVIARC Sweet in a 1-hectare area.
The older brother, Jigs, said he will clear his farm of the Falcata trees before planting EVIARC Sweet Jackfruit.
The low buying price of Falcata made him decide to shift to fruit tree farming.
As an advocate of practical ways in re-greening the deforested areas of the country, I am happy to see people willing to travel for 16 hours just to share the vision of a Green Philippines.
