Road To Food Sufficiency! 2 State Universities Eyed In Wheat, Barley Trial Farms

With the commitment of the owners of Scott Seed Company of Hereford, Texas to support my advocacy for Food Self-Sufficiency in the Philippines by conducting trials for the planting of Wheat and Barley, I have identified at least two State Universities to be the proposed sites.
The first would be the Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Maramag, Bukidnon and the second would be my Alma Mater, the University of Southern Mindanao in Kabacan, North Cotabato.
Both State Universities have vast areas for experimental farming and are headed by pro-active University Presidents, Dr. Jesus Derije for CMU and Dr. Francisco Garcia for USM.
A formal and official communication will be sent to the Presidents and Board of Regents of the two universities as soon as I get back to the Philippines.
The trial farms are critical in the country’s Food Sufficiency Program because the Philippines had largely been dependent on imported Wheat and Barley.
The country imports 7.5-million metric tons of Wheat for food and animal feeds every year while $4-million worth of Barley is imported annually.
Coby Kriegshauser, owner of Scott Seed Company of Hereford, Texas, whom I met and befriended 5 years ago, had committed to establish the Wheat and Barley trial farms.
He said that with proper research and development, the Philippines could plant and produce its own Wheat and Barley.
