A well-planned National Bamboo Program which could be part of a legislated National Greening Act could cover 1-million hectares all over the country in six years.
This program could target the upstreams of River Basins for flood mitigation and soil erosion which causes river siltation.
It could also cover denuded highlands and flood-prone low-lying areas.
To achieve this target, at least 200-million Giant Bamboo propagules with a survival rate of 50% would be needed.
Kaya itong ma-produce ng mga Bamboo farmers ng Mindanao from the existing clumps, including the estimated 600,000 propagules I had distributed.
The economic benefits would be immense because with an estimated farmers income of P200,000 per hectare, 1-million hectares could generate P200-B.
With processing facilities turning these into engineered bamboos for tiles, furniture and construction materials, the Giant Bamboo Program could give birth to a P500-billion a year industry.
