Miarayon, Talakag – On my way home to Kidapawan City from Cagayan de Oro today, I passed by our 8-hectare Experimental Farm to check on the Abuyog Sweet Jackfruit we planted at 1,400-meters-above-sea-level.
The land is owned by a young Talaandig Tribal Chieftain Ryan Danio, an Agronomy graduate from Central Mindanao University.
We experimented on raising chicken and planting Giant Bamboo and fruit trees in the highlands in between Mt. Kitanglad and Mt. Kalatongan in Bukidnon.
What I saw pleased me because the 7-month old Jackfruits were growing vigorously in cool climate at high elevation.
In less than 3 years, these over 300 young trees would start producing fruits.
With thes findings, we could now consider the Abuyog Sweet Jackfruit as one of the tree species to be included in our Green Philippines Advocacy which promotes the planting of Giant Bamboos and fruit trees in denuded mountains of the country.
May kahoy ka na for greening the mountains, may income ka pa.
This is a practical approach to ensure the success of the Green Philippines Advocacy.
