18 Out Of 30! Old, Dry Hopi Azul Corn Seeds ‘Wake Up’ With Agua Oxegenada

Ten days ago, I demonstrated the use of Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) or Agua Oxegenada in stimulating old seeds to “wake up” and germinate.
I actually used in the demonstration about 30 seeds of the Hopi Azul Purple Corn which I bought from the Outdoor Store of Home Depot in California last month.
The seeds were so dry and apparently old that I did not believe they would even respond to the Agua Oxegeneda and germinate.
To boost germination, I soaked the seeds in ANAA root growth enhancer and Dithane to protect it from fungal attack.
Still, I did not expect much from the experiment because the corn seeds appeared very old.
But this morning, I counted 18 healthy Purple Corn seeds growing in pots out of the 30 that I planted.
This is a great development because the Hopi Azul Corn Seeds which I believe came from South America are so rare in the Philippines and this could start the propagation of this variety in the country.
Of the 18 growing seeds, I will plant 9 in one portion of my farm so that they would naturally pollinate among themselves and another 9 in a separate area to create two distinct lines.
I also gave another packet to a young farmer in Kidapawan City and I hope he was able to grow his seeds so that we would have three lines which we could later breed to perpetuate the Hopi Azul line.
