Two months ago, Filipino-American farmer-scientist Rocky French sowed Alfalfa seeds in a plastic pot with Cocopeat and chicken manure.
Yesterday, he showed us a full-grown Alfalfa which after 15 days would be mature for harvest.
This was grown in my farm in Kidapawan City at 380-meters-above-sea-level and a temperature range of 26 to 30° C.
Alfalfa belongs to the family of peas, beans and clover and had been propagated for over 2,000 years now to feed horses and ruminants.
It has fairly high protein and fiber content ideal for feeding as hay or pellets.
Rocky decided to test growing Alfalfa to support our livestock and ruminants industry in the country.
This development offers us a bright hope that we will be able to produce excellent feed materials for our Cattle, Goats, Sheep and young Rabbits.
