SOIL FERTIILITY GUIDE MAP
FOR CAUAYAN, NEGROS OCC.
Before the end of the year, the farmers of Cauayan, Negros Occidental will be able to accurately determine what type of fertilizer and volume they would need to grow specific crops in their farm.
Yesterday, following inputs provided by farmers during a Workshop on Sorghum and Rice Production organized by the Municipal Agriculture Office of Cauayan, Mayor John Ray Tabujara accepted my proposal to craft a Soil Fertility and Crop Suitability Map for the town.
With this, Cauayan will thus become the first town all over the country with an accurate Soil Fertility and Crop Suitability Map which would guide its farmers on what fertilizer to apply and what crops to plant in specific areas of the 52,000-hectare agricultural town.
Using modern Soil Fertility Analyzing Equipment acquired from the U.S., Filipino-American Farmer-Scientist Rocky French will lead the team which will conduct the study.
The output will be an On-Line Accessible Map indicating Soil Fertility and Crop Suitability in all cross-sections of every barangay in Cauayan.
A printed Almanac will also be provided to every Barangay Government which could be accessed by farmers who would like to know accurately the fertilization requirements of their farms.
The program will include the training of the technical staff of the Municipal Agriculture Office in conducting Soil Analysis using samples to be submitted by farmers who would like a more accurate evaluation of the Crop Suitability of their farms.
Modern Soil Tssting Equipment will be acquired by the Municipal Government to allow the farmers easy access to a facility which could give them results in 30 minutes.
This innovation in modern agriculture will make Cauayan, Negros Occidental the first town all over the country capable of guiding farmers on Soil Fertility and Crop Suitability.
