Datu Piang Mayor Victor Samama described the arrival yesterday of Aqua Experts from the Southeast Asia Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) as a “gift from the heavens.”
In a face-to-face meet up with the SEAFDEC and Inca Mariculture Plastics team which I organized in the Al Nor Complex in Cotabato City yesterday, Mayor Samama said the economy of the oldest settlement by the bank of the Rio Grande de Mindanao suffered when siltation caused the water to overflow into former rice farms.
“Dati may marami kaming palay at mais pero ngayon halos tubig na lahat,” Mayor Samama told me during the meeting arranged by former Congresswoman Bai Sandra Sema.
He said the introduction of Freshwater Lobster, locally called “Udang” which is native to the marsh gives him hope that the farmers will find a new option to earn a living.
