Just as the Search for the Biggest Breadfruit comes to the final stretch, a farmer from historic Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte submitted a 3.5-kilo entry.
The breadfruit from farmer Apolinar Sesmeros is by far the 2nd heaviest entry, with 3.7-kilos earlier submitted as the heaviest.
Farmer Apolinar submitted the complete requirements to qualify which include photos of the tree from where the fruit was harvested, the fruit itself, the weigh-in and a certification from the municipal agriculture office validating the claimed weight.
The Search for the Biggest Breadfruit offers a prize of P25,000 for Ist Place, P15,000 for 2nd place and P10,000 for 3rd place.
The contest, which aims to generate interest in the propagation of the seedless fruit called the Super Food, ends Oct. 31.
