In spite of the gloom that envelops Philippine Agriculture because of the Rice Crisis, a new industry, Soybeans Production, offers new hope.
By September this year, we will start our 3rd Cycle of Soybeans Production hoping to cover 2,000 hectares mainly in the town of Alamada, North Cotabato.
The expansion and start of commercial production by the 2nd Quarter of 2024 is made possible with the expected harvest of around 80 metric tons of seeds which I planted in 40 hectares in Mlang and Alamada towns starting May this year.
The Soybeans Production Program started with just 50 kilos of seeds which I acquired from Director Bong Oñate of DA Caraga in late 2022.
As the Soybeans Production Program enters the 3rd Cycle, I am getting support from the Development Bank of the Philippines and the Vetmate Farma Corp. owned by my Batangas-based friend, German Panghulan.
With farmers in Alamada and surrounding areas excited to join a Soybeans Growership Program which I designed, Soybeans Production could cover 100,000 hectares by the end of 2024.
This production area could reduce our 99.99% dependence on Soybeans Imports by 20%.
This is a joyful moment for me as an agriculture advocate.
It is proven once again that if we focus on local production, we could be self-sufficient one day.
