With the farm gate price of palay dropping to P15 per kilo while rice remains at over P50/kilo, life is going to be very difficult for our people in an agricultural province like North Cotabato.
This is reflected now in the very high poverty incidence of 29%, a child malnutrition rate of 33% and a soaring unemployment especially among young people fresh out of college.
This is what I will address if by God’s grace, I will be elected Governor of my province again.
I have designed a program where the provincial government will be directly involved in assisting our farmers from production to processing and marketing of their produce.
Agriculture will be the main focus of my governance while at the same time ensuring that our water sources are protected because this is very vital to agricultural productivity.
The Agro-Industrialization of North Cotabato is expected to add value to our farmers produce, boost the economy and create jobs.
For the first time in our Province’s history, I will introduce Corporate Governance where the Provincial Government will establish an Economic Enterprise Office which will partner with our farmers and agricultural producers to ensure that productivity is high and market of finished product is assured.
A “Free Hospitalization” Program will be implemented with the revival of the Cotabato Health Insurance Program which I designed and implemented during my first nine years as Governor.
The CHIP was actually a copy of the “Dayong” community self-help practice where all members of a village contributed and helped one another during times of crisis.
With the deteriorating Peace and Security Situation, especially in the Province’s First District, I will revive the Crisis Rapid Response Group where specially trained policemen were supported by the provincial government with special equipment, powerful motorcycles and patrol cars to provide immediate assistance to our citizens In times of crisis or emergency.
While the common practice during elections is muck-raking and political assassination, I will not indulge in that because I believe that this election is not about me and my political opponent.
This is about the people of North Cotabato and how I will be able to make life better for them and lead them to a brighter.future along with their children.
