Last night, while I was about to deliver a presentation during a Go Negosyo forum in the Manila Polo Club I received a call from my second child, Josa Bernadette.
“Papa pumasa po ako. Doktor na po ako,” Josa, who is fondly called JB, told me.
I wanted to shout with joy but I restrained myself as I was in the middle of a forum on agriculture attended by Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Migz Zubiri and Grace Poe, Cong. Arthur Yap, Sec. Ramon Lopez and leaders of companies involved in agribusiness.
JB is my second child and the second doctor in the family. Her older sister, Maria Krista, is also a doctor who passed the licensure examination three years ago.
The third child, Bernhart Immanuel, dreams of becoming a veterinarian because he loves the farm animals and would like to take over the farm in Kidapawan City when I will be gone.
It was JB, who two days before her 9th birthday, asked me to quit smoking as her birthday gift. This was on Sept. 20, 1998.
Until today, not a single stick of cigarette has ever touched my lips.
I thank God for the blessings for my children, especially this beautiful little girl who is also gifted with a beautiful voice and talent to compose songs which helped her winning the Awitenista championship for singing and composition competition of the Atene de Davao in 2009.
I am happy that she has finally achieved her dream of passing the medical licensure examination and become a doctor.
I thank God for giving me loving children who have never been involved with any vices.
This is a father’s joy, seeing his children succeed in life.
Congratulations and kisses my dear little doctor, JB.
Papa is very proud of you and loves you very much.
