ABSENCE OF RURAL ROADS INCREASES COST OF FOOD

Last week, I listed the need for more rural roads leading to food production areas as the Number 1 priority of the Department of Agriculture.
By opening farm roads, government encourages farmers to produce more knowing that it is easier and less costly to bring their products to the market.
The country has a backlog of 13,000 kilometers of still to be constructed farm to market roads.
What is life in the rural areas without passable roads?
This video taken by DA National Coordinator for the Indigenous People’s Communities Camilo Andi Jr. shows Tribal farmers using horses to transport supplies and products.
The result is less products brought to the market and more expensive food items.
We have to build more farm to market roads now
