After 5 long years! Community Feed Mill For Aqua, Poultry, Hogs

Yesterday, I joined an association of poultry and livestock growers in the blessing of a P10-M community feed mill in Kidapawan City.

The feed mill is owned by the Cotabato Livestock Producers Assn. Inc.

This is one of the community feed mills funded and built by the Bureau of Animal Industry initiated by then Asst. Secretary Dr. Enrico Garzon when I was Secretary of Agriculture.

The concept was to organize poultry, livestock and aqua farmers and help them produce their own feeds using locally available materials.

I had long advocated this since the time I was Governor of North Cotabato and Dr. Garzon was the Provincial Veterinarian.

The program is aimed at producing fresh and good quality feeds while providing a ready market for the produce of grains farmers.

While the tedious and lengthy government procurement processes delayed the implementation, I am glad that it will soon start producing feeds locally just as the prices of commercial feeds had gone up.

By next month, the COLIPA Community Feed Mill will start producing poultry, hog and aqua feeds for local farmers.
