Alfalfa Ideal 2nd Crop For Coconut Farmers!

Alfalfa (sn: Medicago sativa), a high protein leguminous forage used to feed Cattle, Dairy Cows, Racehorses and Small Ruminants could be an ideal second crop for Coconut farmers in the country.
In my farm, I have sown Alfalfa seeds in furrows in between young Buko Pandan coconuts.
The rest of the Alfalfa seeds sent to me by my American friends will be planted under mature coconuts to test the performance of the forage in partly shaded areas.
The successful trials of growing Alfalfa under Coconuts could boost the Cattle, Dairy and Small Ruminants Industry in the country.
About 3.6-million hectares are planted to coconut in the Phippines, mainly as monocrop.
Alfalfa will not only provide additional income for coconut farmers but also rejuvenate the soil.
