HYBRID SORGHUM DEMO FARM
YIELDS 22-T IN FRESH GRAINS
The demonstration farm for Sorghum which I developed in my farm in Kidapawan City four months today yielded an average of 2.2-kilos per square or an estimated 22 metric tons of fresh grains in stalks during our harvest today.
It was a yield which I never really expected because the field was never fertilized and no chemical fertilizer was used.
Using a Triumph Sorghum hybrid distributed by Allied Botanicals, the demo field has a planting density of 13-14 hills per square meter.
Assuming that the shrinkage could be as much as 40%, the average dry yield would still be about 12-metric tons.
At a price of P12 per kilo, an hectare of Sorghum could earn the farmer over P130,000 per hectare per harvest.
Not a bad earning from a crop which is considered as an excellent to corn for livestock and poultry feeds.
