Even with a measly share of P119.70-B or 3.58% of Philippine Government expenditures estimated at P3.7-Trillion, Philippine Agriculture contributed 8.9% to the Philippine Economic Growth, according to thr Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development.
The Agriculture expenditure covers all Agriculture related projects.
The Department of Agriculture only received P56-B in 2018 and a bigger P86-B in 2019 because of the inclusion of the budget of the National Food Authority, the Philippine Coconut Authority and the Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority and the unprogramned P10-B from the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund and another P10-B for the Coco Levy Fund.
An infographic posted by CARRD on its website Feb. 21 showed that the contribution of Agriculture to national employment is 25%.
These figures repudiate the statement made by Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno that Agriculture has Zero Contribution to Philippine Economic Growth.
