M’LANG, NORTH COTABATO — Secretary Manny Piñol turned-over to the local government unit the newly-completed Solar-Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) project built by the Department of Agriculture in Barangay Palma Perez.
The P7.9-M SPIS project which could irrigate more than 40 hectares of rice areas is constructed on a portion of land owned by Mr. Rico Maambong. Secretary Manny gave him a farm tractor as the agency’s acknowledgment for his trust to the DA and to the project itself.
Secretary Manny emphasized that the construction of SPIS projects is timely and relevant as the country is now experiencing dry spell. He also announced that an Israeli-based agricultural company is willing to fund P44-B for the building of 6,200 units of SPIS projects all over the country.
Aside from the SPIS project, the secretary also turned-over other interventions such as certified palay seeds, assorted vegetable seeds, guyabano planting materials and one incubator to the town’s farmers.
Present in the activity earlier were DA XII Regional Executive Director Milagros Casis, M’lang Mayor Atty. Russel M. Abonado, M’lang Vice-Mayor Joselito F. Piñol and other key provincial and local officials.
