NORTHERN LUZON MAYORS
DRAFT FOOD SECURITY PLAN
Municipal mayors from provinces in Northern Luzon will gather at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) today to present their local food security plan to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The Food Security Forum will start at 8 a.m. with the municipal agriculturists and municipal planning and development officers accompanying their mayors.
Each town mayor will be asked to submit to the DA the basic data needed like population, food production potentials and interventions needed to increase food production.
The mayors will be asked to identify which areas would need farm to market roads, small-scale irrigation, fish ports and post harvest facilities to increase their food production.
Tomorrow, Thursday, Mayors from Southern Luzon will have their day in submitting the same plan at the same venue.
On Friday, Mayors of Mindanao will gather at the D’Leonor Convention Area in Davao City for the same activity while Mayors of the Visayas will gather at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City on Tuesday, Oct. 9 for the same activity.
Based on the municipal food security plans to be submitted by the mayors, the DA will craft a National Food Security which would effectively identify where government needs to provide interventions to ensure the availability of food for the country.
Funding for the projects included in the municipal food security plan will be included in the 2020 National Budget.
