Baybay, Leyte MANOK PINOY FEATURED IN LEYTE FARMERS MEET

By Manny Piñol
Manok Pinoy, the new strain of Philippine backyard chicken raised in the free range, will be featured in a presentation which I will make in the 2nd National Organic Agriculture Scientific Conference in the Visayas State University in Baybay, Leyte tomorrow Feb. 19.
While the organisers have reminded me that there should be no political campaigning during my presentation tomorrow, I will have to emphasise that the success of projects like backyard chicken raising in the Philippine countryside will depend largely on whether the next leaders of the country truly understand agriculture and its impact on combatting rural poverty.
Organic farming advocate @Arsenio “Toto” Barcelona asked me to make the Manok Pinoy presentation during the farmers’ forum on the last day of the National Congress which started Feb. 16.
Toto Barcelona read my posts on the Manok Pinoy and asked me if I could share my experiences in free range chicken farming to the participants of the conference.
Senator Cynthia Villar was the guest of honour during the opening last February 19 of the conference which featured exhibits in organic farming.
Plenary speakers were Dr. Odie Ilao, DOST representative to NOAB and Dr. William Dar, Founder of Inang Lupa Movement.
Leyte Governor Mico Petilla and Mayor Matin Petilla of Palo hosted a dinner for the participants.
Today, Feb 18. will be the Youth Forum with DA undersecretary Berna Romulo Puyat as speaker.
The Young Organic Farmers Club will also be launched today with Dr. William Medrano as Chairman.
Tomorrow, Feb. 19 will be the Farmers Forum with ATI Director Asterio Saliot and 6 resource speakers. Bernie Arellano including myself.
See you in Baybay, Leyte.
