One of my fondest memories as a young boy growing up in the farm was seeing how farmers would wake up early in the morning following a day of rains to plow the paddy fields to plant rice.
Ang pag-umpisa ng panahon ng tag-ulan ang hudyat na puede na magtanim ng palay sa mga un-irrigated and rain-fed rice areas.
Today, halos araw-araw umuulan, especially dito sa area ng Davao at Cotabato regions and this is mainly because of the occurrence of the climatic phenomenon called “La Nina.”
“La Niña,” unlike her “brother” El Niño, brings a lot of rains in our country and this could be a good time for our farmers to plant in the upland areas.
Government must now aggressively support our upland farmers with the needed inputs like good seeds and inputs to take advantage of the rains.
Merong mga upland hybrid rice variety, like the TH82 Tatag of Seedworks, which could give our farmers outstanding yield.
Kailangan mabilis ang pagkilos natin dito because while “La Niña” may last until next year, who knows when “El Niño,” a climatic phenomenon which causes droughts, would hit us.
Again, it would be good to remember the lessons from the experience of Joseph The Dream 2,500 years ago.
