Binhi Para sa Bansa! Let’s Plant Malunggay For Aqua Feeds, Fertilizer

Moringa or Malunggay, that iconic vegetable tree found in the backyard of many farm houses, could boost the aquaculture industry and organic farming in the country.
A Filipino-American farmer in Coachella Valley, Rocky French, who I consider as a brilliant innovator in practical agriculture, has found another use for the sturdy vegetable tree which grows even in the most challenging conditions.
Ang mga dumi ng Golden Kuhol na nakakulong sa tubs na may tubig at pinapakain ng dahon at mga sanga ng Malunggay ay mataas sa ammonia at nagiging nitrates when diluted.
Rocky has tried the diluted Nitrates he produced with his Golden Kuhol and Malunggay formula and the results had been impressive he said.
Kailangan natin ma transfer ang technology sa ating mga magsasaka and Rocky is willing to come home to help me set up a demo area for this project.
Tulad ng nasulat ko na in previous posts, Rocky, originally from Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, is actually one of the grandchildren of an American soldier who fought in the Spanish-American War who married an Ilongga and stayed behind in Iloilo.
Rocky had been into Tilapia Farming most of his adult life and when he moved to the US, he established a Tilapia Breeding and Production Facility in the middle of the desert in Coachella Valley by drilling wells from which he pumped out water using Solar-Powered pumps.
It was then when he experimented on the use of Moringa or Malunggay leaves in his aqua feed formulation because of his knowledge that it contains 18 amino acids.
What he developed was an aqua feed formulation which removed the fishy smell or “langsa” in the Tilapia he produced in his farm.
The technology for Malunggay-boosted aqua feeds and the production of nitrates from Malunggay-fed Golden Kuhol will soon be made available to our farmers and fish cage operators in the Philippines.
As part of that program, I will personally advocate the planting of Malunggay in the vacant areas of our farm and I will give out seeds in small packets to farmers in places which I will reach in my nationwide journey called “Biyaheng Senado.”
