BIYAHENG BUKID-3: MISSING THE FARM

By Manny Piñol
It has been three days since I started the nation-wide journey to see for myself the countryside as part of my preparation for the start of my new work as agriculture secretary.
Already, I am starting to miss my farm.
Before I left, the 120 heads of Peking Duck breeders which Maguindanao Governor Toto Mangudadatu gave me were being prepared to be transferred to the yard.
With the cooling of the days as the rains started to fall, the hens in the yards have also started to lay more eggs.
Orders were also coming in for the breeders of Manok Pinoy and Black Star and we were starting to make a little money to pay for the feeds and the workers salaries.
Also, the Lanzones trees, stressed by the 7-month-long drought, have started to flower as the rains fell.
I will be missing all of these beautiful things in the farm when I start working with government again on June 30.
But I believe the sacrifices are worth it because at long last, I will be able to bring to realisation what I had long dreamed of for the Filipino farmers.
