DA, BFAR LAUNCH TIENDA,
FISH MARKET AUG. 16-17
By Manny Piñol
All is set for the launching of the Bohol Fish Market and TienDA which will offer sea products and crops at farm gate prices in Tagbilaran City on Aug. 16 and 17.
At noon today, I met with top officials of the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to thresh out the details of the two-day activity.
Present in today’s meeting were Undersecretary for High Value Crops Evelyn Laviña, USec for Agribusiness and Marketing Jose Gabriel La Viña, Asst. Secretary for Agribusiness and Marketing Andrew Villacorta, BFAR Deputy Executive Director Druzila Bayate and Agriculture Attache Joselyn Javelosa.
The two-day event will start with the opening of the Fish Market and the TienDA.
The Fish Market will be a permanent fixture where fish and seafoods will be sold to the public.
The Fish Market will also feature eateries where people could order fish to be cooked.
The TienDA will offer vegetables, fruits and other agri products both available locally and from other regions.
During the two-day events lectures and orientation workshops on Easy Access Credit, Vegetable Farming, Fish Cage Farming, Crop Insurance, Financial Management and Literacy and Backyard Hog and Chicken Raising will also be offered.
The Bohol Fish Market and TienDA is an intervention by the DA following complaints by Boholanos against the very high price of food items, especially fish, in the market.
