There are two breeding stages involved in the production of the dual-purpose Free-Range Chicken Strain called Manok Pinoy.
First is the two-way cross of Heritage Breeds, specifically Black Australorp and Plymouth Barred Rock.
I name the offspring from this mating as Black Star because the chicks come out Black with white spots which look like stars.
The second stage is to breed the female Black Star to make Pauwakan Asils, an Oriental breed.
The result is either Black or Dark Red free-range fowls which are good layers and outstanding meat quality which tastes very much like our native chicken.
With this formula shared, I encourage other farmers to develop their own free-range chicken strains.
