With the recent discovery of the three “Super” Rubber Trees which yielded latex beyond the usual level, I am calling on the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) to conduct an on-site validation and research in my farm.
This is a very important step in the development of the rubber industry in the country with farmers suffering from very low farm gate prices made worse by very low rubber production.
While the three 16-year-old trees of the MP Series 2000 clones produce an average of 800 grams per tapping every other day, old rubber clones now used predominantly by farmers like the RRIM 600, PB260 and USM1 could yield only 150 to 200 grams of latex per tapping day.
A validation by PRRI and research on other possible factors which may have contributed to the “super” latex yield like soil type, fertility, elevation, climatic conditions and planting distance would provide us the needed data to determine if these “Super” clones of MP Series 2000 could be propagated in other areas of the country.
Hindi ako madamot and I am willing to share these planting materials once the PRRI has conducted the needed research and validation.
