This picture taken by my staff in Malaybalay, Bukidnon yesterday is a perfect illustration of the Complete Value Chain needed for a successful Bamboo Industry.
I play the role of the Giant Bamboo Advocate who convinced Mayor John Ray Tabujara of Cauayan, Negros Occidental (extreme left) to plant Giant Bamboo for economic returns and environmental protection.
The acknowledged Mother of the Giant Bamboo Program, Myrna Decipulo, (to my right) agrees to supply the planting materials.
To complete the value chain, Bob Tinsay, president of Bukidnon Giant Bamboo Resources Corp., commits to set up a processing facility to buy the Giant Bamboo poles.
There is a huge hungry market for engineered bamboo with one chain of construction supply outlet in the U.S. needing 3,000 containers every month.
The result of this collaboration is a projected earnings for Cauayan bamboo farmers of P1-B, an industry which will generate P2-B for the town and a subtle environmental protection program which will mitigate flooding.
This is going to happen because all the players and dots in the value chain are connected.
