I am reposting this article I wrote about the small feedmill in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato owned by the Cotabato Livestock Producers Association and funded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) when I was Secretary.
Actually, it took almost four years before the construction could be completed, no thanks to the circuitous bidding and procurement process of government.
In the face of the shortage of aqua-feeds, this small feed mill is now being eyed as a possible production area for feeds for Bangus, Tilapia and Hito.
All that is needed is an aqua-feed expert who would formulate the feeds and I have the perfect guy to do that, Filipino-American farmer-scientist Rocky French.
Rocky formulates his own aqua-feeds which he uses in his Tilapia farm in the middle of the desert in Coachella Valley, Southern California.
He supplements his aqua-feeds with locally available raw materials like Malunggay leaves powder which he also produces in his farm.
Rocky is coming home to the Philippines next month to help me address the aqua-feed supply shortage which I am resolving even if I had already left government.
If things turn out according to plan, this small feed mill will start producing livestock, poultry and aqua-feeds by February next year.
