Recognizing the potentials of both Sorghum and Soybeans in boosting agricultural productivity in the country, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. has pledged support assuring farmers of protection in cases of natural calamities, including crop damage.
PCIC President Jovy Bernabe dispatched the top officers of PCIC based in Region XII to meet with me in my farm in Kidapawan City today, led by Regional Manager Gracia Salloman.
Farmers will be covered by PCIC insurance for a maximum area of 3 hectares without any premium if they are members of the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) or if they are borrowers under the lending program of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council.
Currently, I am working on a loaning program which would grant
Sorghum and Soybeans farmers a collateral and interest free loan of up to P25,000 per hectare to cover seeds, farm inputs and planting expense payable after every harvest.
Farmers joining the Sorghum and Soybeans Program are assured of technical support and the Marketing Agreement which ensures a ready market and a guaranteed price for the farmers.
The program will initially start in Central Mindanao, including the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte.
