Two provinces in Central Mindanao will serve as the Pilot Areas for the introduction of a Zero-Interest Loaning Program for farmers who will plant Sorghum and Soybeans.
The towns of North Upi, South Upi and Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte and the city of Kidapawan, towns of Mlang, Alamada and Pigcawayan will serve as the pilot areas for the loaning program.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr. has directed the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) to launch the loaning program as the DA prepares to expand the areas to be planted to Sorghum and Soybeans, crops which are critical in poultry and livestock production.
The loaning program will initially cover 4,000 hectares which will be planted to Sorghum and Soybeans under a Rotational Cropping Program.
Tomorrow, Aug. 28, ACPC Program Director Noel Clarence Ducusin will conduct an Orientation Workshop for farmers from North Upi, South Upi and Datu Odin Sinsuat.
On Thursdays, Aug. 29, another Orientation Workshop on the Loaning Program will be conducted in Kidapawan City while farmers in Alamada and Pigcawayan will have a separate Orientation Workshop next week.
The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation will be joining the Orientation Workshop to brief farmers on how to get crop insurance coverage.
The loans, ranging from P25,000 to P30,000 per hectare, will be granted through the conduit banks of DA/ACPC, Rural Bank of Lebak for Maguindanao del Norte and Cooperative Bank of Cotabato for North Cotabato.
What makes this loaning program unique is the Marketing Agreement between the farmers and Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc. for Sorghum and Vetmate Farma Corp. for Soybeans.
