DAVAO LIVESTOCK, POULTRY RAISERS
GET SUPPORT FOR FEED MILL FACILITY
By Manny Piñol
Davao City – A feed mill for backyard hog raisers and a facility to process chicken wastes into organic fertilizer were among the projects which poultry and livestock raisers in the Davao Region were assured of yesterday during a 4-hour forum with the Department of Agriculture (DA) in a downtown hotel here.
It was the third gathering of the group composed of small poultry and livestock stakeholders of the region and my second meeting with them since they sought the help of the DA in addressing problems which they said stunted the growth of the sectors in the Region.
For almost four hours yesterday, the poultry and livestock farmers presented their problems to the DA and received the commitment of support from the DA Secretary.
Among the requests addressed were:
– The DA Secretary’s support and endorsement for a P100-M loan by poultry raisers for the establishment of a broiler and layer hatchery facility to supply the chicks needed by small farmers. The loan application will be endorsed by the DA to the Land Bank of the Philippines and the Development Bank of the Philippines.
– The establishment of a feed mill facility for backyard hog raisers amounting to P10-M.
– The establishment of an Organic Fertilizer Processing Facility which would process chicken dung and other animal wastes into fertilizer to address the problem of waste disposal and at the same time support organic farmers in the region. The facility is estimated to cost P10-M.
– A Loan Fund of P3-M for the Dairy Cattle Farmers of Malagos, Davao City to be used as their working capital to buy back the offsprings of the cows the association dispersed to its members.
– Breeding materials for both meat and dairy goats which will be acquired through the PL480 funds from the US Department of Agriculture.
At the end of the meeting, the stakeholders expressed their thanks to President Rody Duterte for the loaning program being implemented by the DA which they said directly helps them.
The loan funds will be made available to the Davao Poultry and Livestock farmers in the First Quarter of 2019 through the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC).
