One of the biggest advantages of countries like Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam in the marketing of their high-value agri commodities is product visual presentation through outstanding packaging.
Maski hindi masarap at malasa ang produkto nila kumpara sa gawa sa Pilipinas, nabebenta nila dahil maganda ang pagkabalot at presentation.
In Asian grocery stores in the US, Philippine products will never stand out beside products from the above-mentioned countries.
Take for example the iconic Sukang Pinakurat, a condiment made out of coconut vinegar with spices like sili, garlic and ginger.
I will pick Pinakurat over Sriracha anytime because I know that it is definitely a better product.
But for the uninitiated, why would they try a product in a “lapad” bottle commonly used by White Castle and Tanduay Rhum?
We really needed to improve on our packaging and this is the main reason why I directed the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) to offer loans for equipment needed in the farms, especially for post harvests.
You could borrow money from ACPC for packaging and bottling equipment at 2% interest payable in 8 years.
Those interested could contact ACPC Executive Director @Jocelyn Badiola on Facebook.
