As the interest to plant Sorghum and Soybeans grows among farmers in the country, government should prepare its support for post-harvest facilities.
Both Sorghum and Soybeans, which are considered new crops since these are not widely planted, need special and appropriate post-harvest equipment.
Sorghum needs a special thresher designed for the small round grains.
It also needs a ‘debearding’ equipment to clean it before delivery to the mills.
Soybeans, on the other hand, needs a specialized harvester and beans thresher.
The use of both Sorghum and Soybeans harvesters, while considered ideal, is not practical in the Philippine setting because of the parcelized and small farms.
