Dado Trial Farm! Garlic Growth Better In Alamada Highlands

About a week after the establishment of the San Vicente, Makilala Garlic Demo Farm, a second trial farm was established in Sitio Dulao, Dado, Alamada Cotabato last week of October.
There were improvements in the planting in a 1,000 sqm area with an elevation of about 900-meters above sea level.
The land preparation was more thorough and the planting beds were elevated using a Rotating Disc Plow which effectively prevented water-logging in spite of the rains.
There were two trial areas with several plots planted using the usual inorganic fertilizer of 14-14-14 while in the second trial area, organic manure and Guano were supplemented to the inorganic fertilizer.
Both trial areas showed better growth that the rain-affected lowland demo farm in Makilala, North Cotabato but the plots where organic manure and Guano were added to inorganic fertilizer showed better growth.
The stark contrasts between the two Garlic Demonstration Farms in the lowland and the highlands of Cotabato and the use of Organic Fertilizer will give us valuable inputs as we continue with our advocacy to introduce Garlic farming in Mindanao.
As I have stated in a previous post, we definitely were able to establish one undeniable fact: Garlic could be grown in Cotabato and perhaps in the other areas of Mindanao.
This gives us hope that someday soon, as we are able to perfect the Garlic farming technology through the support of Vetmate Farma Corporation, Mindanao could become a major producer of this very valuable product.
There is also the dream that soon, the country will no longer depend on Imported Garlic which usually tastes bland without the desired aroma.
Mindanao could be a major producer of the Philippine Native Garlic, especially the aromatic Ilocos variety.
