At about 3 a.m. today, when it became clear that the Filipino people have chosen him to be their next leader, President-in-waiting Rody Duterte visited the tomb of his parents and cried his heart out.
A post made by Davao City journalist Stella Estremera reported that Duterte kissed and embraced the tombs of his father, Davao Governor Vicente Duterte, and his mother, school teacher Soledad Roa Duterte, and sought their help and guidance.
“Dili ko katoo. Kinsa ra man ko,” Duterte said as he cried during a visit to the Davao Public Cemetery where the remains of his parents are entombed, according to Estremera.
(I can’t believe this. Who am I? I’m just a nobody.)
As of 4 a.m. today, the partial and unofficial count showed Duterte posting an insurmountable 6-million-vote lead over administration candidate Manuel Roxas III.
The 4 a.m. tabulation showed Duterte with 14,826,122, Roxas with 8,886,520, Grace Poe Llamanzares 8,327,676, Jejomar Binay with
4,945,335 and Miriam Defensor-Santiago with 1,348,037.
Duterte, who waged a national campaign with eager resources, has always visited the tomb of his parents before and after making very important decisions.
