DV Savellano Bamboo Goat House Ready For Occupancy!
The Bamboo Goat House which the late Agriculture Undersecretary DV Savellano dreamed of building for the Small Ruminants Production Program is now ready for occupancy.
Built by a local farners’ cooperative, COLIPA, the Bamboo Goat House will serve as the breeding facility for 140 Spanish Goats whose genetics will be used to upgrade Philippine native goats.
The Spanish Goats will be flown in from the USA acquired from American farmers who have perpetuated the hardy breed brought to Mexico and Texas by Spanish conquistadores.
The Spanish Goats which look very much like the Philippine native goats but larger and Heather are outstanding sources of meat.
The Spanish Goats Breeding Program is a project of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. to boost meat production in the country.
Offsprings of the Spanish Goats would be ready for dispersal by the end of 2025.
