Two new non’-GMO Soybeans varieties from India are performing well 12 days after these were planted in Trial Plots in Kidapawan City.
Some of the plants wilted because of fungal attack but the problem was immediately addressed using anti-fungal interventions.
The performance of the new varieties is of great interest to us in the farm because a good yield could boost our Soybeans Development Program.
Currently, we use two varieties propagated by farmers for decades now, Manchuria White and Tudela Black.
These two local non-GMO varieties had not been upgraded and are capable of producing only 2.5-metric tons per hectare.
New varieties with higher yields could encourage more farmers to join the program.
