Eternal Vigilance! Monitor Growing Crops; Pests Attack Overnight

One important lesson a farmer must always bear in mind is the need for constant monitoring of crops growing in the field, especially during vegetative and flowering stage.
Hindi pwedeng weekends and holidays lang ang pagbisita mo sa mga pananim because worms, inspects and fungus do not observe Sundays and holidays.
Weeds also grow vigorously especially if the field is well-fertilized.
I have learned this lesson in the past and it was frustrating and expensive.
In fact, kung hindi lang ako determinado na isulong ang programa sa Sorghum and Soybeans, I would have raised my hands in surrender given the losses suffered.
But the worms and the weeds are not to be blamed because it is always the farmer’s negligence that allows them to feast on the crops.
Yesterday, I visited one of the Sorghum fields in Sitio Dulao, Dado, Alamada, North Cotabato where landowners are planting the crop under a growership program with the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc.
Worms had attacked the young Sorghum and some of the leaves also had fungus but it is a good thing that the son of the landowner, Junjun Miranda, is a vigilant farmer.
At first sign of the worm and fungal attack, he was able to address the problem and prevented further damage on the crops.
Indeed, eternal vigilance is needed in farming to ensure success.
