Experience Best Teacher!
When animal science and veterinary students of the University of Southern Mindanao undergo a 15-day On-The-Job Training in our farm as part of their requirements for graduation, they learn practical lessons from my cousin, Neri Piñol Sodusta, who is actually a commerce graduate.
Neri, however, grew up in the farm with chicken, pigs, goats and cattle and had learned the secrets to raising these animals from his father, Tatay Aling, and our grandfather, Lolo Jose.
His knowledge of traditional animal health care was buttressed by endless learning process gained through actual farm experiences.
Yesterday, I was amused to see Neri briefing future Animal Science and Veterinary Technicians on how to address the common poultry disease called “Aratay” and how to deworm chicken using Betel Nut.
Indeed, experience is the best teacher.
