The Search for the Biggest Breadfruit in the country ends today, Oct. 31 with a total 10 entries submitted from all over the country, including Bucay, Abra, and the winners will be announced tomorrow, Nov. 1.
As of yesterday, however, an entry from An Margaret F. Musico of Banton, Romblon edged out other contenders to place second so far with a Breadfruit weighing 3.8-kilos.
The entry complied with all the requirements including a certification from the Municipal Agriculture Office on the weight of the Breadfruit.
Tomorrow, I will announce the final winners with the owner of the Biggest Breadfruit receiving P25,000, second place P15,000 and third place P10,000.
This contest sponsored by Braveheart Farms & Nursery which my family owns and supported by a sponsor who contributed P20,000 but requested anonymity aims at boosting the interest of farmers in planting the Breadfruit, also known as “Kolo.”
Breadfruit is not only considered “Super Food” which could contribute to our advocacy for Food Security in the rural areas, it could also be an important species in our Green Philippines Campaign which encourages the planting of fruit trees in the denuded mountains of the country.
