Vegetable farmers of Kibanggay, Lantapan, Bukidnon have learned to stand up to oppressive traders and middlemen by grouping themselves and setting up their own outlet along the national highway.
The outlet has become very popular that motorists never fail to drop by and buy assorted vegetables whose prices are very fair.
When I dropped by yesterday on the way home to Kidapawan City from Cauayan, Negros Occidental, Romaine Lettuce was P50/kilo, Tomatoes P25/kilo, Kalabasa P15/kilo and locally grown White Bulb Onion was P130 per kilo.
I’m sure the farmers were making a bigger profit through their outlet than selling their produce to traders who make more money than them.
