The use of Polyethelene Fruit Bags, originally designed to protect Cavendish Bananas from scarring insects, have proven effective in protecting Jackfruits from fruit borers.
This was what we did when I noticed that many of the young fruits of my Abuyog Sweet Langka were attacked by borers, locally called “Tamasok.”
Since the fruit bags are readily available in Mindanao because of the thriving banana industry, I decided to use these to protect my Abuyog Jackfruits.
Today, we are harvesting unblemished Jackfruits which could be marketed for a good price.
