Practice Silage Making
To Prepare For Drought
With the long dry spell stretching for over a month now, Cattle and Goat farmers who had relied on the “Cut and Carry” system are facing challenges in gathering roughage to feed their animals.
A few days ago, I saw a field of Napier Grass which had turned brown because of the El Niño.
Had the Napier been harvested earlier before the onset of the drought and stored as Silage, the farmer would have been able to store enough feeds for his animals.
This is the reason why Cattle nutrition expert Arnel Corpuz had been sharing his knowledge on Silage making using such materials as Corn, Sorghum, Napier and others.
With Silage stored in the barn, the farmer does not have to worry where to get feeds for his animals even during a long period of drought.
