Fertigated Upland Rice! 2nd MinDA TH82 Pilot Area Posts 7.07-MT Per Hectare

The Mindanao Development Authority’s (MinDA) second pilot farm for Hybrid Upland Rice variety TH 82 using the Fertigation technology has recorded a harvest of 7.07 tons per hectare last week.

Jong Flores, owner of the pilot farm in Don Carlos, Bukidnon reported that a nearby trial farm which also used TH-82 Hybrid but was not irrigated harvested 5.03 tons per hectare.

The demonstration held at Brua Flores EcoFarm Demonstration Farm. Don Carlos Bukidnon is part of MinDA’s Upland Hybrid Rice Farming Program which Fertigation Technology in cooperation with US Seedworks.

Another plot planted to Upland Black Rice will also used the Fertigation Technology will be harvested on 19th..

The Culmination and Farmers Field Day was attended by Don Carlos Bukidnon Municipal Mayor Ma. Victoria O. Pizarro, CPA and Kadingilan , Bukidnon Mayor Jerry Canoy, represented by his son Councilor Jerry Canoy Jr.

Municipal Agricuturists, Rice Experts , Farmers , Observers , Media Personalities and the MinDa Team were also present.

The Brua Flores EcoFarm Demo for Hybrid Upland Rice with Fertigation technology is the second with the Braveheart Farms and Nursery in Kidapawan City leading the experiement.

In the Braveheart Farms, the average harvest was only 5-metric tons because of the stinky insect infestation.

The experiment is aimed at utilizing the vast upland areas of Mindanao to hybrid rice production to contribute to the country’s food sufficiency program.
