Finally, we’re planting! Sorghum Farming Launched In 3,000-Hectare Coop Farm

After a long delay in the launching because of the unrelenting rains and lack of equipment, the flagship project of the small agricultural company which I, former Senator Ping Lacson, Rocky French and four other friends organized, Sorghum Farming, has finally started.
Yesterday, plowing started in the first 200-hectares of the estimated 3,000 hectares committed by the Dolefil Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (DARBC) located in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
The area is part of the 21,000-hectare Pineapple plantation area in South Cotabato which observes a 4 to 6-month fallow period, simply a gap in Pineapple planting, which could be planted to rotational crops.
Our group, the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures (SAAV) Corp. convinced DARBC and Dole Philippines to allow the planting of Sorghum and Alfalfa as rotational crops to add income for the Cooperative and also support the Cattle Industry of Polomolok and South Cotabato.
Sorghum Silage and Alfalfa Hay are the most ideal feed materials for both Cattle, Carabao and small ruminants like goats and sheep, including Rabbit.
With the presence of Polomolok Mayor Bernie Palencia and DARBC Chairman Vincent Palma and the members of the board of directors, we sowed the first Sorghum seeds using a drone.
On Friday, the first 100 hectares will be planted using a Drone while the official ceremonies to launch the program will be held last week of August to be attended by former Senator Panfilo Lacson and other visitors.
For this year, it is expected that the initial 3,000 hectares will be covered while another 17,000 hectares could be planted by next year.
