Early this morning, I received photos of our first Garlic harvest in our Demo Farm in Dado, Alamada, North Cotabato.
The cloves of the Ilocos Garlic planted by our farmer-partner Jonathan Miranda and his wife, Inday, in several plots in Sitio Dulao were not as large as those produced in Ilocos Region.
The fact that the Garlic has developed cloves, however, was an inspiring development.
A little more improvement in our planting and fertilizer protocols would produce better quality Garlic in the next cycle.
What is important is that with a private group leading the program, VetMate Farma Corp., it has been established that Garlic could be grown in Cotabato.
As we perfect the protocols, Garlic farming could later be expanded to the rest of the agricultural areas of the 9.5-million hectare Mindanao Island.
Soon, our dependence on imported Garlic may be greatly reduced.
